The caves

If there is one originality in this region of Saône et Loire, apart from that linked with the abundance of Romanesque art, it is that of the existence of two caves of primary importance. The sites of Blanot and Azé are of different but complimentary interest. The former offers a deep descent and geological discoveries of what nature has produced over several million years. The latter offers the visit of a beautiful underground river and exhibits some rare prehistoric items.

Blanot Caves

Vast laid out network with a number of rooms rich in concretions (stalagmites, stalactites). Showcase on local prehistory and palaeontology.

The tour begins with a huge chamber more than 50 m long. The cave then runs into a steep slope descending to a depth of 80m including a network of galleries interrupted by chambers, each one more unusual than the previous one.
